The all-new Pan America 1250 adventure motorcycle is Harley-Davidson’s explore-it-all machine for those who are driven to push boundaries and don’t want to be confined by the limits of roads. Adventure touring riders seek out new experiences in any direction, on any terrain, to explore the undiscovered, sleep under the stars and immerse themselves in the journey. The Pan America was built for these explorers, to go further, until they find themselves in places few have traveled.
The spirt of Adventure Touring on a Pan America 1250 is one of endless possibilities and unrestrained freedom for the soul. From highways to dirt paths, from mountain tops to river valleys, the thirst for adventure spurs riders forward to discover what lays beyond the next bend in the trail. This tenacious spirit has driven Harley-Davidson to develop a motorcycle that will win the hearts of bold, adventurous individuals who seek out the wild spaces. Individuals like actor Jason Momoa, who after an early test ride of Pan America, jumped at the opportunity to partner with Harley-Davidson on the launch. Momoa, a passionate motorcycle enthusiast is the perfect partner to help bring the Pan America to the world and showcase the technological advancements that Harley-Davidson is bringing to the segment.
"Pan America is the machine that will allow me to extend my passion for Harley-Davidson to the ends of the earth and I am absolutely stoked to be a part of it," said Momoa. "It’s the best Adventure Touring bike I have ridden, and I know other adventurers like me who are consumed by wanderlust will love it."
Whether its camping on a mountain side or traversing a dry lakebed, the Pan America 1250 motorcycle is equipped with advanced technologies designed to embrace adventurous spirit. Adapting to varied terrain and riding styles easy with multiple electronically controlled ride modes that tailor the performance characteristics of the motorcycle to deliver confidence in a wide variety of riding conditions.
The Pan America motorcycle introduces a revolution in accessibility and performance with Adaptive Ride Height technology. This industry-first motorcycle suspension system automatically transitions between a riding position when stopped to an optimal ride height when the motorcycle is in motion. The lowered suspension at rest makes the motorcycle easier to mount and dismount, without sacrificing lean angles or ground clearance.
The Pan America motorcycle is also powered by the all-new Revolution Max 1250 engine. The latest in the legendary powertrain lineage of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, is a liquid-cooled 1,250cc-displacement V-Twin finely styled as the visual centerpiece of the motorcycle. The Revolution Max 1250 is designed to offer smooth, low-end torque delivery and low speed throttle control that is ideal for off-road riding.

All-new Revolution® Max 1250 Engine
FOR A NEW GENERATION OF ICONIC BIKES
The next chapter in a century of legendary V-Twins is here. Revolution® Max is a liquid-cooled powertrain with over 145 horsepower, full of ample torque, and a surging powerband tuned to maximize rider control.
DUAL PURPOSE POWERTRAIN
The Revolution® Max 1250 is a structural component of the motorcycle chassis, eliminating a traditional frame —?which significantly reduces overall weight and keeps handling taut. This is performance you can feel, with the center of gravity low and the chassis super rigid.
PEAK PERFORMANCE WHERE IT COUNTS
Double Overhead Camshafts (DOHC) facilitate higher peak horsepower, and independent Variable Valve Timing (VVT) broadens the overall powerband and improves torque management. All this to say you’ll have as much low-end acceleration off the line and high-RPM horsepower you can twist.
Adaptive Ride Height makes its debut on the Pan America 1250 Special. This factory-installed option unlocks confidence you can feel by lowering seat height when stopped, and maintaining a constant, optimum suspension sag at speed by adjusting preload while continuously sensing weight inputs.
SEMI-ACTIVE FRONT & REAR SUSPENSION
190mm (7.48 inches) travel on Showa® BFF™ (Balance Free Forks) fronts and a BFRC™ (Balanced Free Rear Cushion-lite) coil-over rear shock with electronic preload control and semi-active damping. The rear suspension incorporates a linkage system connecting the shock, swingarm, and frame which provides a progressive feel through the stroke.
DIFFERENT BY DESIGN
H-D design and engineering teams have crafted a vision guided by utility, rooted in the spirit of iconic American off-road vehicles. In a landscape of bikes that are achieving uniformity, Pan America is a rugged take where function feeds form in a package that is uniquely Harley-Davidson.
ALL TERRAIN LONG HAULER
Informed by H-D’s touring legacy, Pan America™ is designed to maintain high-speed ride and handling performance even when at the limit of its luggage and weight capacity. Refined, capable and intuitive, Pan America™ is a motorcycle that stays composed and confident no matter how hard you push it.
PAN AMERICA™ 1250 SPECIAL

Vehicle Loading Control
This system senses the weight of the rider, passenger and luggage to select optimum suspension sag by automatically adjusting rear preload.
Built to Endure, Designed to Explore, and Engineered for Adventure.
The Pan America motorcycle is Harley-Davidson’s explore-it-all machine for riders who see touring as detouring – on road and off. This rugged, powerful, technologically advanced multi-purpose vehicle is designed from the ground up to inspire rider confidence and fuel the spirit of adventure, wherever the road may take you.
Harley-Davidson has leveraged its cutting-edge design and engineering capabilities to create the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special, all-new, adventure-touring motorcycles, each designed with premium features, outstanding performance and innovative technology.
"From its inception more than a century ago, when many roads were little more than dirt trails, Harley-Davidson has stood for adventure. So I’m very proud to present Pan America as the first adventure touring bike designed and built in America," said Jochen Zeitz, chairman, president and CEO Harley-Davidson. "The Pan America models exude that go-anywhere spirit, shared today by riders in the US and around the globe who want to experience the world on a motorcycle." That same adventurous spirt is deeply shared by actor and brand ambassador, Jason Momoa, who is joining creative forces with the Company to bring Pan America’s passion for adventure to the world.
Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special models are powered by the new 150hp Revolution Max 1250 engine, a liquid-cooled 1,250cc-displacement V-Twin designed to offer a broad powerband that builds to a rush of high-RPM power. To minimize overall motorcycle weight (Pan America 1250 534lb. wet/Pan America 1250 Special 559lb. wet), the Revolution Max engine is integrated into the vehicle as the central member of the chassis.
Pan America models are equipped with technologies designed to enhance the riding experience, including multiple electronically controlled ride modes plus Cornering Rider Safety Enhancements. This broad collection of technologies is designed to match motorcycle performance to available traction during acceleration, deceleration and braking. The Pan America 1250 Special model is equipped with electronically adjustable semi-active front and rear suspension. As an industry-first innovation, Pan America is equipped with Adaptive Ride Height (ARH), a revolutionary new suspension system which automatically transitions between a low stopped position and optimal ride height when the motorcycle is in motion.
Harley-Davidson design and engineering teams collaborated throughout the process of creating and refining the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special models with a vision guided by utility. Like a good multi-tool, function leads the form of these Harley-Davidson models. From grab handles to integrated luggage mounts, to a horizontal headlamp configured to better illuminate an off-road trail, function defines style. Inspired by the spirit of rugged North American off-road versatility, the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special models stand out visually in the adventure touring landscape, with design that reflects the capability of the motorcycles.
Harley-Davidson dealers will offer a complete line of accessories for the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special models, including three durable luggage systems, and new technical riding gear for men and women developed in collaboration with respected European motorcycle apparel specialist, REV’IT!. (See separate releases for details accessories and gear)
The Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special models will arrive at Harley-Davidson dealerships in Spring 2021.
2021 Harley-Davidson Pan-America 1250 Special Features and Benefits
Semi-Active Suspension System
This system reacts to suspension position, vehicle speed, vertical acceleration, roll angle and rate, throttle, brake inputs and the selected Ride Mode to maintain the desired comfort setting. There are five pre-programmed profiles, which are baked into each Ride Mode:
Comfort: More suspension compliance and isolating the rider from rough road conditions.
Balanced: A balance of ride comfort and ride control, for all-around riding.
Sport: Maximum ride control with higher damping rates?– what we call "spirited riding"
Off-Road Soft: Reduced initial damping to increase suspension compliance to better absorb larger obstacles and to reduce kickback: ideal for logging roads, washboards and rocky terrain.
Off-Road Firm: Increased initial damping for aggressive riding or when less body float is desired: ideal for soft/loamy terrain.
The 1250 Special has several enhancements as standard for when you take the road less traveled.
Aluminum skid plate protects the engine crankcase from impacts.
Brush guards protect the radiator and help support the motorcycle in a tip-over.
Steering damper to enhance dynamic performance during aggressive off-road riding.
No-tool-needed adjustable brake pedal, which can switch between two positions to improve control and comfort when the rider is standing.
Semi-Active front and rear suspension with a specific Off-Road mode programmed to help the rider maintain traction and control over rougher roads and terrain
Pan America 1250 models are equipped with the latest technology you’d expect for the category: six-axis IMU, customizable ride modes, Bluetooth connectivity and moving map navigation features in a 6.8? (173 mm) touchscreen display.
STAINLESS STEEL LACED WHEELS
Available as a factory-installed option, the stainless steel spokes are inserted through the aluminum wheel rim outside of the tire bead. These wheels offer the rider several advantages over the cast wheels in off-road conditions.
This design allows the use of a tubeless tire, which eliminates the weight of an inner tube, and makes the spokes repairable in the field.
If spokes loosen or break, they can be serviced or replaced without removing the wheel from the motorcycle or removing the tire from the wheel.
Advanced Daymaker® Adaptive Headlamp
Utilizing the ABS IMU to determine the lean angle of the motorcycle, this system automatically projects additional light into corners to illuminate areas of the road that may be unlit by an LED headlamp without this tech.
Includes three LED elements per side, located just above the main Daymaker® headlamp.
The adaptive lamps illuminate in sequence based on motorcycle lean angle: at 8, 15, and 23 degrees.
Rather than just switching on and off, the current to the adaptive elements ramps up gradually so the additional lighting is progressive and appears seamless.
